Did you say something? Oh I couldn’t hear you; I had my AirPods in, or wait my Beats on?
AirPods have been a hot topic during and shortly after the Christmas season. Memes on Twitter and other social media platforms contributed to the fame and publicity of Apple’s newest earphones.
However, Beats by Dre own a large share of the headphone market. With a history of great noise cancelling headphones, how does Beats’ Studio³ Wireless compare to Apple’s AirPods?
AirPods come in a small, slick charging case that use the Apple charging cord to charge the case. The Airpods themselves have a 5 hour battery life, and with 15 minutes of charge, the Airpods hold 3 hours of battery life. With a charging case that contains more than 24 hours of battery life it is nearly impossible for your headphones to die. AirPods’ small size and great design offers a perfect earphone for on-the-go people in everyday routines.
AirPod user and senior Tim Novick said, “The best thing about AirPods is their accessibility and comfort. It’s easy to pop them in and out quickly without the hassle of wires, and sometimes I don’t even realize I have them in because they are so comfortable. The sound is clear, and overall, AirPods are worth the purchase.”
The best part about Beats’ Studio³ Wireless headphones is the Pure ANC feature (noise cancelling). According to Beats’ website, “Pure ANC continuously pinpoints, isolates, and cancels exterior noise in real time to play sound the way it was intended.” Beats’ Studio³ Wireless contain up to 22 hours of battery life with Pure ANC on and 40 hours of battery life with Pure ANC off. With only 10 minutes of charge, the headphones will play for 3 hours. With a comfortable, cushy interior Beats’ Studio³ Wireless are perfect for long travel.
Senior and headphone connoisseur Myles Hopkins said, “I love the sound quality; it is my favorite part. The music sounds twice as good compared to regular headphones.”
Both AirPods and Beats’ Studio³ Wireless are bluetooth capable and contain no wires. The major differences between the two are size, charging convenience, and noise cancelling capabilities.
Airpods win for size. AirPods only go inside of the ear and have a small case that can fit in your pocket. Beats’ Studio³ Wireless is larger and wraps around your whole head, which make using Beats’ Studio³ Wireless a little clunky for everyday on the go use. It’s a tie for charging convenience.
Both headphones have impeccable battery life. While Beats’ Studio³ Wireless have a better charge ratios of 10 minutes of charge for every 3 hours of battery life compared to Apple’s 15 minutes for every 3 hours, you must be at home or a place with an outlet to charge the Beats’ Studio³ Wireless. AirPods have the convenience of the small charging case with more than 24 hours of battery life. When it comes to charging. it mainly comes down to personal taste and lifestyle: convenience or long haul charging.
Beats’ Studio³ Wireless definitely wins the noise cancelling match. With the Pure ANC feature cancelling all outside noise, Beats user can fully emerge themselves in their music. While AirPods sound quality isn’t bad, it can have a slight nosebleed.
The final component is price. Apple’s AirPods cost $159.99 while Beats’ Studio³ Wireless cost a whopping $279.99. What you pay in price you receive in noise quality.
The funny part is Apple owns Beats by Dre, so either way your money is going to Apple Inc.
Go out and try them for yourselves.
