The JV hockey team fell 7-1 to St. Rita Thursday evening.
“We need to work on our offense,” said freshman Brian Jeffers, “We hardly ever get through the neutral zone but, when we do, we still run into trouble.”
According to Jeffers, the Crusaders don’t shoot the puck enough. In other words, the Crusaders have been missing many scoring opportunities.
Excluding the goals, the Crusaders put up 24 shots while Saint Rita put up 47.
“Our real issue is the neutral zone,” said sophomore Connor Foley.
The Crusaders have a hard time getting through the neutral zone. It is crucial to have good chemistry in the neutral zone because it is the place where most pucks can be intercepted.
Varsity hockey captain Billy Jeffers, brother of Brian, thinks the team has potential. He said, “They’re going through a rough patch right now. I’ve been in these situations before, it’ll pass. It’s a talented group of guys.”
The Crusaders beat Notre Dame 3-2 Sunday evening. Their next game is Saturday, 8:05 pm, at Homewood-Flossmoor Ice Arena.
