Last week the Brother Rice Crusaders dominated a 72-57 basketball matchup against the St. Ignatius Wolfpack. The Crusaders played at home in front of a packed house and did not disappoint.
They were led by senior Marquise Kennedy with 25 points. Great performances were also delivered by junior Deandre Hagan with 15 points and 6 rebounds, and a 14 point total with four three-pointers by senior Jimmy Gavin.
“It was an excellent team effort as everyone did their part,” said senior Tom Durkin.
The Crusaders and the Wolfpack played an intense first half, and the Wolfpack led 27-25 at the half.
However, the Crusaders went into this game well prepared for what the Wolfpack could potentially throw at them.
“With our scouting report we were able to recognize their inbound and offensive plays,” said junior Sean Joyce.
Throughout the second half, this preparation paid dividends as the Crusaders began to lock down the defense and turn on the offense, eventually pulling away.
With this win, the Crusaders improved to 14-6 and 6-2 in the Chicago Catholic League Blue. “It was a good win for us as we have a long stretch of Catholic League matches coming up, and it was important to get rolling,” said Durkin.
This game has been the latest in a successful run for the Crusaders with victories in 5 of their last 6 games.
