By Joseph Case ‘19
This poem is inspired by the emotions and feelings drawn from the experience of returning back to the Brother Rice parking lot at midnight after the devastating loss to Loyola Academy at the 8A Football State Championship. For me, and many other senior marching band members, this moment marked the end of 4 years filled with halftime shows, pep rallies and national anthems.
The band is the center for high spirits and cheer,
But none of either can be found here.
The clock strikes twelve as the silence continues.
We try to misconstrue it, but the truth ensues.
The truth we cannot bend.
That this season has come to an end.
The climax consisted of many tears,
But now a new truth appears.
We witnessed history at Champaign.
We saw a team that did not wane.
We watched them advance in the fray.
And although we did not gain the day,
Our team stood straight and true.
So, to our Crusader team, we say thank you.
