This Friday’s game will be a CCL Blue and CCL Green crossover between the Marmion Academy Cadets and the Brother Rice Crusaders. The game will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. at Fichtel Field. This is Rice’s yearly CCL crossover match between the Blue and Green divisions.
Crusader football is entering into week 7 undefeated. Last Friday, the team beat the St. Rita Mustangs by a score of 21-14 in a conference game.
Meanwhile, the Cadets are coming into week 7, at 2-4 after having just lost a conference game last week to De La Salle 40-14.
When asked what to expect from the Cadets defense, senior wide receiver Anthony Arquilla said, “Their defensive line has some size, but I feel we should still be able to run the ball against them.” The Crusader offense is averaging 156 rushing yards per game and 367 total yards per game. With Crusader quarterback John Bean rushing for 75 yards per game, I pity the defense that tries to stop him.
The Crusader defense is nothing to scoff at either, going into week 7 with 11 interceptions and 9 sacks under its belt.
“Going into the Marmion game, our defense is feeling confident. We feel like a unit, we are prepared physically and mentally for this game as we practice hard and observe their offense off the field. The defense already has a taste of what Marmion is expected to do on Friday night,” said senior Tyrhen McCoy.
However, while the Crusaders might look strong on paper and the Cadets weak, one thing has made itself clear – in CCL football, even in crossover matches, never underestimate your opponent.
McCoy is confident that the Crusaders diligence in practice will pay dividends on Friday, saying, “As long as we trust one another with our jobs we should successfully contribute to the game.”
The Crusaders and the Cadets should give us exciting match this Friday night.
