On Friday, Sept. 28, the Brother Rice Pep Rally kicked off with the marching band leading the student body down from their homerooms to the South Gym.
Seniors Tom Gleeson and Matt Reidy were masters of ceremonies for the event. Gleeson was greeted with good-natured jeering as he attempted to introduce the fall sports teams. They introduced the golf team, the soccer team, the cross country team, and finally the football team, with each team getting a well-deserved round of applause. The Lady Crusaders also led us through a series of chants, getting the students excited for the football game later that night.
There were several games played throughout the pep rally such as a marshmallow long drive and baseball using a pool noodle as a bat. The band was present, providing music for each activity. The rally also featured a hilarious skit by Mr. Creed and Mr. Dolan as Jake and Elwood Blues respectively.
“This year’s Pep Rally was pretty enjoyable. As someone behind the scenes, I was able to see how much hard work is needed to put together such a good Pep Rally. Seeing how good the event turned out made it all the more rewarding.” said senior Marco Braschi. Braschi is a student council member who helped Ms. Pacetti put together the Pep Rally and was proud of how it turned out
The pep rally came to a close with a student vs teacher matchup of soccer, in which the teachers unfortunately prevailed by a score of 3-2. However, there were some comedic moments during the game, such as when Coach Dunne decked senior Eric Gutierrez in an attempt to get possession of the ball. When asked what his favorite part of the pep rally was, senior Pat Mcauliffe, said, “It was great seeing Coach Dunne lay out Eric Gutierrez.”
All in all, the pep rally succeeded in getting spirits up for the Brother Rice victory over St. Rita later that night.
