There is a new game in the gaming community that is storming the whole internet. The name of the game that is booming across the whole world is Fortnite Battle Royale. Developed and published by Epic Games and co-developed by People Can Fly – originally called Epic Games Poland – Battle Royale is the free-to-play, player versus player mode that focuses on the aspect of building in order to survive the 100 player royale. Battle Royale is on all consoles and is an extension of the game, Fortnite. Battle Royale is one of the biggest games to date!
The main premise of the game is to loot various items around a giant map while not getting knocked down by the other 99 players that spawn into the map. Each player starts off with 100/100 health, but he or she is able to find loot that can raise the shield of the player. Some of the loot that is available in the game ranges from a common pistol to a legendary assault rifle. Other loot includes, but is not limited to, the following items: shield potions, slurp juices, bandages, and medkits. Shield potions allow a player to gain 50 shield points to his or her overall health, while medkits heal a player to 100% health if he or she is not at that point. The medkits do not affect a player’s shield.
Gathering materials is key in this game. Players can obtain wood, stone, or metal materials that they can use to build small shacks for quick cover or giant bases where the players can snipe down on their opponents. These materials can be obtained by many of the pre-made structures, unusable vehicles, and other parts of the map. Certain obstructions that cannot be used to gain materials include the mountains and hills, the ground, and player-made structures.
Fortnite Battle Royale was given mixed reviews by many members of the gaming community. Some players do not like the game and say that Battle Royale’s main rival, PUBG – Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds – is better for a variety of reasons. Yet, other players thoroughly enjoy the game. Marco Braschi, one of our juniors, enjoys the game. He said, “The game is a fast-paced shooter that feels better than PUBG. I really like the cartoon feeling to the game.”
On the opposite end of the spectrum, a number players prefer PUBG over Fortnite. Junior Vince Podlasek said, “I lean towards PUBG. The sense of realism feels better than the cartoon style of Fortnite. Fortnite feels too childish.”
Junior Ian Fitzpatrick backs up Vince, saying, “Fortnite is too fast-paced and just a jump-and-spam fest.”
No matter how Fortnite is perceived currently, the fact that it is blowing up across the gaming community and the entire internet is astonishing. This is one of the biggest games to date, keeping in mind that it is only in the beta stages of its lifespan.
