The Ash Wednesday Service was held on March 1st. Held by the Peer Ministry, this service incorporated ashes, which symbolize that we are the descendents of Adam and Eve, who were cursed with original sin. “I think the ashes mean humility and that we are all equal,” said Nick Chimera. Ash Wednesday helps us to recognize our humanity and to embrace our humility.
We get these ashes on our foreheads to signify our humility and our humanity. “Remember, man, that thou are dust and unto dust thou shalt return,” is Ash Wednesday’s most famous expression, stated Mr. Hickey. This phrase is meant to symbolize that Adam and Eve, the two humans in the beginning, were subject to corruption and death for disobeying God and listening to the serpent.
