The first game in 1975 started the rivalry on Pulaski which pitted the Brother Rice Crusaders against the Marist Redhawks. These games have been very intense over the years, resulting in many wins and losses on both sides.
The Brother Rice Crusaders started preparing for this year’s game after the end of last season, spending countless hours in the weight room and on the field. Then camp in August started, and the Crusaders began not only taking physical reps but also mental ones.
All this hard work paid off on August 28, 2016, when the Crusaders beat the Redhawks 31 to 7. Some outstanding plays were made by offensive players Ricky Smalling, David O’Keefe, Brandon Houston, Dino Borrelli, and the offensive line led by Brian Gannon.
On the other side of the key, plays were made by Brian Olsen, Jack Keane, Arthur Veal, and the defensive line led by Larry Washington. On the special teams side of play, John Richardson kicked extremely well, showcasing his power with kicking a couple of touch backs. Sean Carberry showed his accuracy by placing a punt inside of the five yard line pinning the Redhawks back. This advances the Crusaders to 1-0 to start off the season.
